Water Terminations:
Laws, Procedures, Strategies

How do you determine which water termination law you should utilize?

What options are available for collecting payment from one delinquent customer in a multi-unit condo with one meter?

How can we motivate customers on private wells to pay their delinquent sewer bill?

Can we have water turned off for non-payment of a sewer bill if we are not the water provider?

These issues, along with others, will be addressed in this session. An overview of the various statutes dealing with the termination of water service for nonpayment of water and/or sewer bills will also be presented with a focus on which law is applicable under what circumstances.

In addition, examples of proper authority rules and regulations of water termination procedures will be shared as well as strategies and recommendations for compelling delinquent sewer customers (not connected to public water) to pay their bill.

The presenters will also discuss:

  • Water termination laws as they relate to the type of customer (residential property owner/renter) and type of service (water/sewer).

  • Examples of water termination procedures outlined in authority rules and regulations

  • Strategies to motivate delinquent sewer customers in paying their bill - which one is right for you?

  • Q&A with PMAA Solicitor - East, Steven Hann, Esq. of Hamburg, Rublin, Mullin, Maxwell, & Lupin.
