Dallas Area Municipal Authority
Ryan Longfoot is serving as Dallas Area Municipal Authority’s Solid Waste Supervisor since October of 2016. He is continuing his education in Business Management at Luzerne County Community College. Ryan serves on the Luzerne County Solid Waste Committee establishing and reviewing Luzerne County’s Solid Waste Management plan. He is also a member of these other organizations: Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP), National Recycling Coalition (NRC), and Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) where he is recognized as a certified Integrated Solid Waste Manager. Ryan lives with his wife Nicole, and two sons Nathan and Tyler.
This area has Pennsylvania's third largest concentration of covered bridges – nineteen! The largest vein of anthracite coal in the world is under the Lackawanna Valley and most of the coal is still there.
Luzerne County houses the only museum in the world devoted solely to Houdini. It is known as the home of Gifford Pinchot (1865–1946) who was the first Chief of the United States Forest Service (1905–1910) and the Governor of Pennsylvania (1923–1927, 1931–1935). The oldest stone railroad bridge in use in Pennsylvania, the Starrucca Viaduct, crosses PA Route 171 north of Lanesboro. Wyoming County and is home to the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct as well as Factoryville, birthplace of Pro Baseball Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson.
The town of Noxen is known for being the host of an annual rattlesnake roundup! Centralia, PA has been on fire since 1962. The fire started as an accidental garbage fire that spread to the town's coal mine which has been burning underground ever since.
